Visiting Assistant Professor Digital Studies

With a background in literature and women’s studies, I am an interdisciplinary and early-career scholar working primarily at the intersection of digital and queer studies. I work and teach as a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Digital Studies program at Davidson College. Interested in topics like gender and technology, queer representation, and visual culture, I approach my work through a wide range of mediums that include literature, film, social media, fan fiction, and other digital artifacts.

Read my piece published to The Lion and the Unicorn (2020) in which I explore Young Adult literature as a technology for queer cultural inheritance. Or, shifting from literature to social media, my analysis of emerging trends in YouTube’s coming out videos is available in Queer Studies in Media & Popular Culture (2022). My work with queer cinema is set to appear in October of 2022 in The Encyclopedia of LGBTQIA+ Portrayals in American Film (edited by Erica Joan Dymond and Salvador Jiménez Murguía). Additional works on queer representation in video games and fan fiction are set to appear in forthcoming issues of Screen Bodies and Transformative Works and Culture, respectively.

As a goal of both my pedagogy and my practice is to write for a variety of audiences and purposes, my scholarship has also appeared in more public-facing platforms, including In Media Res, Input Magazine, Inside Higher Ed, and Public Books.
